Yeah, yeah, yeah, you’ve heard it all before: protect your family by wearing reflective belts whenever venturing outside. Sounds like old news, right? But even if you think you’re perfectly safe in your own backyard, it’s definitely time to think again…

Don’t Want To Be Dead? Wear Reflex Instead:

Someone In Your Family Is Disabled: Two members of our Reflex family have children with hearing loss, creating an increased danger for pedestrian fatalities and injuries. Despite our best efforts, family members with any sort of impairment (whether hearing, visual, mental or an injury that decreases speed) can all hinder their ability to move out of harms way efficiently. You Walk At Weird Hours: Do you work tough hours, leading you to walk your dog or go for a jog in the early morning hours? What about late night strolls in the summer? Even if it’s not dark outside yet, it’s important to think ahead and bring an item of reflective gear (it may grow dim before you return).

You Love To Wear Black: Ok, who doesn’t? It’s slimming, it’s sassy and it’s super easy to put on in a hurry (hello? It goes with everything!) But if you have one too many black staples in your workout wardrobe, it’s a warning sign to get in the reflective habit. (Make your money last by getting a reversible belt, so you can wear it more ways than one!)

Want to spread the word about this cause, so you can save lives? All you have to do is follow our Facebook or Twitter pages, and stay up to date on giveaways. We have contest every week that let you get involved (while still winning fabulous Reflex gear!) Sound good?

How much would you pay to save your child’s life? This is exactly the question we asked on our Facebook page this week as fatalities from pedestrian related accidents continue to grow. Even though we are the #1 maker of reflective gear for the US military, there are no regulations in the nation for pedestrians and children. This means that your loved ones (those who jog, play in the yard or dart out in the street after a toy) are the most at risk. Here’s how you can help…

Want to save a child’s life? Take this badge…

<a href=”http://www.reflexsafety.com/blog/” title=”Reflex Safety”><img src=”http://i964.photobucket.com/albums/ae127/themakeovermomma/1-3.png” alt=”Reflex Safety” title=”Reflex Safety” /></a>

Place This Badge Where People Can See It: Steal the badge above and add it to your website, social media pages or send it to friends. The only way that we can create change is by speaking up (you just might save a child’s life).

Ask Yourself- “What’s It Going To Take?”: Does it take the tragic passing of a celebrity’s child before we bring awareness to this issue? Let’s protect our children now so we have no reason to regret out choices later.

If you want to solve this problem in your own neighborhood, don’t forget to enter the Reflective Sticker contest on the Facebook and Twitter pages. If you get 10 friends to follow one of our pages, you WILL get reflective stickers for your child (and a pack for one of their friends too). Add them to their rollerblades, bicycles, sneakers or anything else needed, to keep them safe outside as the warm months draw near.

If you’re getting sick of your boring workout routine, try throwing a dose of military training in the mix. Even though it might seem hard to motivate yourself without a drill sergeant yelling overhead, a bootcamp style of workout can be an extremely effective way to exercise. It fuses a mix of body weight exercises and plyometric movements to create a body toning, fat shedding circuit routine that would whip anyone in to shape. Here’s how to create your own at home….

Mix It Up: Bootcamp training is all about using your body weight instead of bulky (and potentially injury inducing) weights. Try creating a circuit routine by mixing together toning movements like push ups, plank holds and sit ups, with cardio blasts of high knee-runs or squat jumps.

Keep It Moving: Don’t let yourself get bored with your bootcamp circuit, because you’ll stop seeing results. Change things up by writing down your favorite moves and throwing them in a hat. Pick a new one every 60 seconds and cycle through for an intense, effective 20 minute routine. Everyone has time for 20 minutes, right?

Enlist a Friend: Keep yourself motivated for this intense style of training by enlisting a friend. Take turns training each other, or meet with a group of friends and set up a mini bootcamp obstacle coarse together (bull horn and fatigues are optional).

Remember to keep yourself safe during any type of workout by wearing items from Reflex Safety (in case you didn’t guess it). And since we’re the #1 supplier of reflective gear for the US Military, you literally will be unleashing your inner bootcamp!

Don’t Miss It: We’re having a different giveaway EVER DAY this week (on our Facebook and Twitter pages). All you have to do is comment to participate… so don’t miss out!

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women? Even though so many powerful women are able to overcome and thrive despite a breast cancer diagnosis, the rate of mammograms performed in the United States have dropped in recent years (giving physicians big cause for concern).

In honor of our Runners Angel line (which features pink products in support of breast cancer research), we’re listing off some of the top ways to stay smart when it comes to cancer…

Don’t Ignore The Numbers: According to the “Cancer Statistics, 2010″ , a shocking 38% of U.S. women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This means that no matter what race, size or genetic background we have, we can’t ignore doctors visits. Make sure that you take annual check-ups (especially routine mammograms) very seriously.

Think Positive: If you hate doctors visits and procedures, try associating them with something positive so you’ll be less likely to put it off. For example, ask your closest friends to get checked out annually in the same month, and meet afterwards for dinner. Mammogram Margarita night? No one wants to miss that!

Make Yourself A Priority: It’s hard for many women to take time for themselves while raising families and pursuing their careers, but if we don’t take care of our health now… who’s going to be taking care of us later? Take the time to fit a little physical activity in your life every day (even if it’s only 20 minutes), and strive to eat a variety of vibrant, fresh foods.

Of course one of the best ways to spread the word about breast cancer research is by checking out our Pink Line. You can be someone’s Runners Angel simply by sporting pink proudly, raising awareness and contributing. Now you know what to wear on your next charity walk or race!

Don’t Miss It: Make sure to check out our Facebook and Twitter pages for weekly giveaways and contests.
It used to be that in times of war, the entire country rallied around our troops, got their hands dirty, and did whatever they could to help support our military efforts. These days, however, it seems that most of us spend more time looking at a Facebook status updates than we do the news. Instead of knowing which soldiers are serving from our towns and cities, we know the names of ever contestant on American Idol.

So how can we support our troops and let them know they’re not forgotten? Use these easy tips…

Instead Of Watching Late Night TV……write a soldier in need a letter (even if The Daily Show is still in the background). We love the charity Soldiers Angels that creates opportunities for wounded soldiers to receive letters from citizens who care.

Instead Of Playing With Your iPhone ….. help a soldier connect with his family and friends by donating a phone card. Cell Phones For Soldiers.com will even let you trade in your old or used model (instead of throwing it away), to provide phones for our service men and women.

Instead Of Turning Off the Nighttime News… remember that even if you don’t know a soldier fighting overseas, you can still find ways to help. Any Soldier.com helps you send care packages to those in need: allowing brigade members to give the package to whomever needs it most. Be sure to include a Reflex Safety belt of course (we’re the #1 maker of belts for the US military!)

You Support Them, We Support You Giveaway

So now that you know how you can give back, we want to give back to you for caring. Just comment on this post below, and you could win a workout Slim Sash.

* Answer This: How do you strive to support our troops, and why do you think it’s important?

A winner will be chosen at random in 1 week and announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages (so be sure to follow them!) Ready, set….comment!

“You protect your health… so why not protect your safety?” This sentence came to the mind of Mary Sayre (one of the masterminds behind Reflex Safety) after viewing a fit, healthy runner hitting the pavement one day. Even though the passerby clearly cared about her physical fitness, her completely black ensemble said otherwise. Even though black tends to be an esteem-boosting mainstay in most of our wardrobes (little black dress, anyone?), it’s a dangerous risk with your life when it comes to running.

Here’s how you can run the line with fashion, without putting your life on the line….

Fashion Forward Safety:

• If you’re going to wear slimming dark colors, don’t be reckless. Take two extra seconds to throw on a bright reflective item (like this Runners Hat) to aid oncoming traffic.

• You can wear black without taking a risk. This slimming tank top (with reflective accents) will be just as flattering to your figure, without putting you in harms way.

• If all else fails, keep it simple. Add some simple, colored cuffs to stay safe (like our 1″ Reflective Vinyl Band) without cramping your style. Easy enough?

Slogan Contest: What’s Your Top Tagline?

You heard our favorite slogan at the moment… now it’s time to hear yours! We asked you to comment on our Facebook page with your favorite promotional phrase (and automatically be entered to win a Reflective Workout Band with ID). You have until Wednesday to enter: so leave a comment with your idea, cross your fingers, and a winner will be chosen this week! Here are some of our favorites…

* Belinda: “Reflex Safety….Run in the dark safely!”

* Jessica: “Reflex Safety: When the sun goes down and you just need to run.”

* Toby: “This Reflex belt is a great ID-a!”

Keep ‘em coming (and thanks for entering!)

Wearing a protective belt to protect yourself at night and early morning might seem like common sense… but did you know that kids are at risk too? Even if your child is merely playing in their front yard when there isn’t adequate daylight, they are at substantial risk for a pedestrian fatality.

Kids + Pedestrian Fatalities: The Facts

•	Even though pedestrian fatalities amongst children have dropped significantly (due to less walking as means of transportation), pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 5 to 14.

•	According to PreventInjury.org, “children from birth to age 2 are more likely to suffer non-traffic-related pedestrian injuries, including those occurring in driveways, in parking lots and on sidewalks.”

•	In general, parents overestimate children’s cognitive, sensory and physical skills when it comes to traffic. Remember, your child is impulsive, active and may not be able to discern the distance and speed of an oncoming vehicle.

•	Studies done in 2002 (as reported by PreventInjury.org) noted that a shocking 79 percent of injuries and fatalities occurred at non-intersection locations. This means that just because your child isn’t near a busy street, doesn’t mean they’re safe. Plus, 10% of injuries occur within the driveway itself (because the child isn’t visible to the parent).

In the end, you don’t want to put your child’s life in their little hands (they are far from ready for that responsibility). Instead, make sure to choose the right reflective safety product so all family members and vehicles can properly see your child. We recommend easily layered bands in fun colors, or a “reflective princess sash” for little girls.

* Admit It: Have you ever come close to not seeing someone while driving?

Now that the Reflex Safety blog is going strong, we can’t wait to spread the news. Luckily, we weren’t the only ones touting our brand new products and top selling gear (some of the coolest bloggers on the block were too). Check out what these top fitness fanatics think of our personal safety gear:

* Tips For New Runners With Questions: Jennifer Gerlock (@mammamania) from Hip As I Wanna Be is no stranger to running…she just mastered the New York marathon last year! She shared her tips and tricks for runners of all levels in this insiders video (above). Plus, she explains why our Hot Lips keep her worries at bay)

* Win A Reflex SAfety MP3 Holder Band So Your Boobs Don’t Break Your iPod: Jeannine Morris (@beautysweetspot) is known for her bubbly personality, unique style and fantastic beauty tips on Beauty Sweet Spot… but did you know she’s a complete health nut too? Whether mastering Yoga or trying exercise trends, she explains why her MP3 player helps her in the sweatiest of moments (giveaway included!)

* How Do Green Girls Protect Themselves? With Hot Lips Of Course!: Shane Shirley Smith (@envirobooty) from (you guessed it) Environmental Booty knows her stuff when it comes to eco-friendly, planet-friendly loot, but she also pays attention to her booty as well. As a busy mother of 3, she keeps herself lean (and green) with a variety of healthy habits…. But keeping herself safe with non-toxic pepper spray is definitely one of them!

If you want to do more than just read why Reflex products rock the bloggy world, you can try winning some as well. Just enter our super easy Tweep Sweetheart Sweepstakes this week in celebration of Valentines Day. Follow us on Twitter (@ReflexSafety), tell us who YOU are crushing on this year and you could win your own miniature pepper spray (to keep the creepers at bay)…. That’s it!

A winner will be chosen at random by the end of the week. Good luck!

What would you do if someone you loved was hit by a car because they couldn’t be seen at night? You don’t have to be a runner or marathon fanatic to be putting your life at risk in the dimmer hours. Whether you’re out walking your dog, pushing your child in a stroller or simply getting the mail, being near any street in standard clothing is an enormous risk of your life.

A pedestrian is hit every 113 minutes in the United States alone. Imagine what would happen to this statistic if more people started wearing Reflex gear in their day-to-day life. Becoming a Reflexer doesn’t mean donning your self in head-to-toe neon colors and shiny materials (even though that would be rather amusing to the average observer), because Reflex is smart, streamlined and simple.

The Top Ways To Wear Reflex:

* Keep It Easy: Don’t want to ruin your outfit by wearing gaudy reflective items? Try slipping on this stylish pink sash from the Runners Angel’s line (it’ll make any outfit look better!)

* Turn It Up: If you hate wearing belts or sashes, try slipping on a handy MP3 arm band. You can keep your tunes rocking without cramping your style.

* Stay Covered: Want free range of movement on your early morning runs? Sport this sleek runners hat (in a wide variety of colors) and you’ll stay seen without slowing you down.

Want To Win A FREE MP3 Arm Band? Simply follow us on Twitter (@reflexsafety) and like us on Facebook (Reflex Safety) for two separate chances to win!

This post is the property of Reflex Safety™ and may not be recreated, used or printed without permission.
